Galatians (Part 7)

Christ + Nothing: Trusting God Over Works

This week’s message continued our journey through the book of Galatians, diving deep into what it truly means to walk in freedom by faith—not by works or religious pressure. The speaker opened up with personal stories, sharing how God changed his life and why this message hits so close to home.

Living the Word, Not Just Reading It

The message started with a powerful reminder: if we want to experience the living Word, we have to spend time in it. Not just reading it like a textbook, but breathing it in and living it out. That’s how transformation happens.

“The more you read, the more you’ll live it.”

We’re Saved by Grace, Not by Rules

Galatians reminds us that we are saved by grace—nothing more, nothing less. The people in Galatia were being pressured to follow the old laws, but Paul tells them (and us) that salvation isn’t about keeping rules. It’s about believing in Jesus and trusting in what He did on the cross.

“Legalism says do. Grace says it’s done.”

Understanding Baptism

The message broke down four kinds of baptism:

  • Salvation: Accepting Jesus into your heart.

  • Holy Spirit: Being filled and led by the Spirit.

  • Water Baptism: A public sign of your faith—not required for salvation, but encouraged.

  • Baptism of Fire: A future event, when Jesus returns.

The speaker made it clear: you don’t lose your salvation when you mess up. God’s grace holds you.

Stop Carrying What Jesus Already Took

We often carry resentment, shame, and old habits on our backs. But Jesus invites us to lay those things down. He already paid for them. When we trust Him, we walk lighter and freer.

Faith Is Trusting, Not Trying Harder

Paul calls out the Galatians for going backward—trying to be perfect by human effort after starting in faith. We do the same when we think God’s love depends on our performance.

“Works are not love. And faith isn’t about doing more—it’s about trusting deeper.”

Denominations and Division

The speaker talked about how different cultures shaped the church:

  • Jews followed law.

  • Romans built systems.

  • Greeks loved philosophy.

  • Americans made it about business.

But God never intended for His church to be divided. We’re all one body, saved by the same grace.

“Let’s be a church of faith, not religion.”

Abraham’s Faith: A Model for Us

Abraham’s story was used to show what deep faith looks like. He obeyed God even when it didn’t make sense—like when he was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac. But he trusted God would provide, and God did.

This points us to Jesus: the Lamb provided for our sins.

Final Thoughts: Say Yes

The message closed with this encouragement: Don’t stay stuck. Don’t keep living in cycles. Say “yes” to God. Start walking in freedom. Start trusting Him, not just believing in Him.

“Forgiveness, worship, prayer, service, and love—this is the walk of faith.”

If you’re feeling weighed down, now is the time to lay it all at the cross. God’s not asking for your perfection—just your surrender.
