The Power Of A Serving Home
HOME TEAM — PART 9
Building Block #2: Servant Leadership
CORE IDEA
Strong homes are not built on comfort or convenience, but on sacrifice, service, and the example of Jesus.
The foundation of servant leadership is not a principle—it’s a person.
It’s the Cross.
THE MODEL: THE CROSS
The greatest act of servant leadership in history was Jesus laying down His life.
The Gospel—His death, burial, and resurrection—is the ultimate picture of love in action.
WHY SERVANT LEADERSHIP MATTERS
1. REAL LOVE SACRIFICES
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life…” (John 15:13)
Love is not just felt—it is demonstrated through sacrifice.
2. SERVING COSTS
Serving requires time, energy, and humility.
It is rarely convenient, but it is always meaningful.
“This is how we know what love is…” (1 John 3:16)
3. SERVING CHANGES LIVES
Because of the Cross:
Sin is forgiven
Relationship with God is restored
New life is given
“He Himself bore our sins…” (1 Peter 2:24)
When we serve others, they don’t just get help—they experience Jesus.
WHAT SERVANT LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE
IN THE HOME
Servant leadership is lived out in everyday moments.
Parents lead by being present, patient, and quick to admit when they’re wrong.
Children lead by showing respect, helping without being asked, and honoring authority.
Roommates lead by contributing, caring for shared spaces, and taking responsibility.
IN THE CHURCH
Serving means stepping in, not sitting back.
Welcoming people, using your gifts, and being part of a team creates a culture where people feel seen and valued.
THE RESULT
A home shaped by servant leadership becomes a place where:
Serving is normal
Love is visible
Jesus is experienced daily
FINAL TRUTH
“You were called to be free… but serve one another humbly in love.” (Galatians 5:13)
When serving becomes the culture,
the heart of Jesus becomes visible in the home.
