Galatians (Part 10)

Christ + Nothing = Everything

Scripture: Galatians 3:1–14
Speaker: Pastor John Blue
Date: Sunday, August 10, 2025

Opening

This Sunday at Pacific Point Church, Pastor John opened with a warm welcome to visitors and some lighthearted moments that had the room laughing — a reminder that joy and humor are gifts from God. Before diving into the message, he paused to pray, asking God to center our hearts, keep our focus on His Word, and help us walk in the truth of the Gospel.

We continued our series in Galatians, looking at Paul’s urgent call to return to grace and leave behind the weight of legalism. The central truth was clear: Christ plus nothing equals everything. When we add anything to the finished work of Jesus, we lose the freedom He gave us.

1. God’s Grace Is the Foundation

  • Grace is a gift, not something we earn.

  • Our standing before God is based entirely on what Jesus has done, not what we do.

  • Trying to “work” for God’s love will only lead to exhaustion and frustration.

2. The Trap of Legalism

  • Legalism adds man-made rules and creates a performance-based faith.

  • Paul warned the Galatians about going back to works after starting with grace.

  • Returning to a “rule-keeping” mindset is like putting chains back on after being set free.

3. Freedom in Christ

  • Freedom doesn’t mean living however we want.

  • True freedom is the ability to obey God joyfully because of love, not fear.

  • Walking by the Spirit keeps us aligned with God’s heart.

4. Abraham’s Example

  • Abraham trusted God’s promises even when they seemed impossible.

  • Faith comes first — obedience flows from trust.

  • Like Abraham, we are called to believe God even when we don’t see the outcome.

5. Living It Out

  • Stop measuring your worth by spiritual “scorecards.”

  • Focus on relationship over rules — time in prayer, Scripture, and worship.

  • Show the same grace to others that God has shown to you.

Key Takeaway

Christ + Nothing = Everything.
Don’t slip back into performance-based religion. Stand firm in the freedom Jesus gives, live by faith, and let your life be a grateful response to God’s amazing grace.
