Galatians (Part 11)
Sermon Notes – Pacific Point Church, August 11
Series: Galatians – Christ Plus Nothing
David Roth
Main Theme:
We are no longer slaves under the law but sons and daughters of God, adopted into His family through Christ.
1. Adopted as Sons and Daughters
Paul reminds the Galatians that they are no longer bound by legalism.
Through Jesus, we’ve been given adoption into God’s family.
This means we have full rights of sons and daughters—not second-class citizens.
2. The Father’s Love is Relational, Not Transactional
God doesn’t love us because of our performance or good works.
He loves us because of who He is—His very nature is love.
Illustration: Abraham was declared righteous because of his faith, not his works.
3. Living in Freedom, Not Fear
If we return to striving under the law, we miss the gift of grace.
Slavery produces fear and striving; sonship produces peace and confidence.
We don’t have to earn God’s approval—we already have it in Christ.
4. Walking in Identity as God’s Children
Paul uses the language of inheritance: sons and daughters inherit what belongs to their Father.
Our inheritance is eternal life, freedom, and the Spirit living in us.
Key application: stop living like a slave, start living like a son/daughter.
5. The Heart of the Gospel
The gospel is not “do better, try harder.”
It is: Jesus did it all.
When we rest in that truth, our lives produce fruit naturally, not out of forced effort.
